Columbus CyberKnife Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary

This month, Columbus CyberKnife honors five years of cancer care since opening on the campus of hospital partner Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital.

Over the past five years, our physicians and staff have worked to connect with the community and spread awareness of CyberKnife® treatment among patients in Ohio and beyond. Below are a few milestones we are proud to recognize:

  • Columbus CyberKnife’s clinical team has treated more than one thousand patients. As the only CyberKnife treatment provider in the area, we have specialized expertise in our most frequently treated diseases, which include brain tumors and lung and prostate cancers.
  • The CyberKnife technology used to treat patients at our center was upgraded last year. The next-generation CyberKnife system includes Lung Optimization Treatment (LOT), which expands treatment capabilities for high-risk lung cancer patients.
  • As a medical device that provides a specialized type of radiation therapy, CyberKnife reached a 20-year milestone since the first prototype was developed and used at Stanford in the mid-90s. The inclusion of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy in the model policies and guidelines of national organizations, such as the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and the American College of Radiology have added to a growing base of support and long-term clinical evidence for the treatment. In turn, Columbus CyberKnife has seen growing support from physicians to refer patients for CyberKnife SRS and SBRT.

We are proud to have the opportunity to continue serving cancer patients throughout the region. If you or a loved one would like to learn more about CyberKnife treatment, please contact our center.
